2008 “Faith Stimulus” Plan

Hello WBC Family!

By now some of you have probably already received your share in the economic stimulus plan. What you might not have known is that Windham Baptist Church is offering a “Faith Stimulus Plan.” More valuable than money (gas!), we’re freeing up some time for you to invest! For 10 weeks, we’re encouraging everyone to be a part of a Rhythm Living & Equipping strategy. Let me briefly fill you in on what this will look like.

For 10 weeks, beginning June 29, our Sunday School hour will be replaced with opportunities to invest our “Faith Stimulus” rebate. We encourage you to begin with Rhythm Living. The goal is to equip and challenge the whole church to live out our Identity (who we are)—Family, Missionaries, Servants, Learners—through our Rhythms (how we live)—Story-formed, Listen, Celebrate, Bless, Eat, ReCreate.

If there is a time to capitalize on our Rhythms it’s the summer! Why? Because we Mainers cocoon when the weather starts getting chilly, so if you don’t reach out when the sun is out, you may not get in until next summer. That is why we are encouraging and equipping the WBC family to “make the most of every opportunity” (Eph. 5:16) and to create opportunities to be missionaries to their nonChristian neighbors and friends by recreating, eating, and blessing them. That is the “out-reach” side of Rhythm Living.

But there’s also “in-reach”. Since our time change in the Fall ’07 the overwhelming response has been that our church loves the fellowship time. A short break from our regular Sunday School time will provide us with the occasion to fellowship together longer either here at the WBC building or at our homes, the Landing, or Sebago Lake. Take advantage of living our Identity as God’s Family by intentionally spending time with one another!

The Second way to invest in your “Faith Stimulus” rebate in through Equipping. We are setting aside specific time this summer to equip God’s people to do the work of the ministry. An afternoon/evening seminar is in the works to encourage and equip our teachers: children’s, teen, and Sunday School, Jr. Church, Salt and Light, and Life Group leaders. We also want to use this time to recruit new teachers to help this church family be life-long disciples, Learners.

Over the weeks ahead, you’ll hear more specific ways we can be living out this Rhythm Living—Equipping summer. In fact, Pastor Mark is starting a sermon series from the letter Titus, and the big idea of that letter goes right along with why we’re doing this: “And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful” (Titus 3:14).

For now let me simply say this. Time, like money, needs to be invested wisely. So don’t waste this “Faith Stimulus” rebate. Here are some helpful dates to keep in mind to help each other make the most of this summer.

  • June 29 All WBC Family Meeting (children included). During the normal SS hour we lay out a practical strategy for the Equipping—Rhythm Living—Fellowshipping summer.
  • July 27
All WBC Family Meeting (children included). This is a “check-up” time (also during the normal SS hour) to find out how we’re all doing, to share how God is working, and to encourage each other with ideas.
