WBC Haiti Mission Trip Oct 4-11

Below is a letter from the WBC Haiti Mission Team. We would be so encouraged if you took a few moments to read what God has called us to do and how we can partner together in HIS Kingdom work in Haiti. (You can also download the Support Letter, here.)

Dear Family and Friends,

Can you envision a land where poverty, hardship, hunger and a lack of resources both spiritually and physically keep many from hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ? I want to share with you a challenging ministry opportunity God has presented to me.

We’re writing to you because, this fall, God has provided us with an opportunity to serve on a short-term mission team in Cite Militaire, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, sponsored by Windham Baptist Church.

Departing October 4, our team of 14 will spend a week living and working alongside Pastor Jean Rigaud Antoine and his ministry at Wayom Timoun” Kingdom Of Kids Orphanage. Pastor Rigaud and his wife Melande are committed to communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ with their words and commending the gospel with their lives. In the past we’ve been able to bless them while they’ve been stateside. Now we have the opportunity to partner with them in a strategic short-term ministry that will, by God’s grace, produce long-term impact.

We will be helping their ministry by working on the upstairs of the orphanage to make more space for working missionaries, visitors, parents and staff, and therefore free up space for the additional orphans since the earthquake. Assist the orphanage staff in their daily routine, to bless them with some rest. Present the gospel in the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

I’m writing to you to ask if you’d consider praying for us and for this trip. Please pray for our ability to communicate through translators. The language barrier can be very challenging. Please also pray for God to give us strength. The pace of our schedule will be great but with your prayers, our impact will be greater!

In addition to prayer support, we each need to raise $1,500 to participate in the mission. Half of those funds are due August 29, 2010 and the balance is due by Sept. 19, 2010. Would you please consider helping us financially? A gift of any amount will be greatly appreciated. These contributions will go towards our flight, food and water, and towards the materials needed for the work project.

Your contributions are tax deductible when you make your checks payable to “Windham Baptist Church”. Please do not write our names on the check, as this will void that tax break. Rather, write “Haiti 2010” in the memo line and place your check in the offering plate with your response card or mail your check along with the response card, placed in the stamped, self-addressed envelope enclosed with this letter to:  Windham Baptist Church 973 River Road Windham, Maine 04062. For more details, please feel free to call Windham Baptist Church at 207.591.4607.

Thank you so much for considering partnering with us on this journey. We’ll be sure to keep you informed as we prepare for take-off.

In the Family of Christ,

Kristen Coldwell, Elisa Dunfee, Bill Symonds, Tyler and Nancy Dunphy, Sarah Knights, Kathy Lund, Jessie Marsters, David and Anne-Marie Murch, Josh Otte, Jake Thomson, Amber Wilson, and Geoffrey Wright.
