Resources for Holding Fast, Hoping in God’s Promises

We can hold fast to our hope in Jesus because God’s promises are sure.

That was the big idea of last Sunday’s sermon from Hebrews 6:13-20. Here are some resources to help us “hold fast” to God’s promises so we can see through the false promises and the fleeting pleasures of sin.

Battling Unbelief by John Piper. This book has helped me big time in fighting the unbelief in God’s promises that are at the root of my anger, impatience, lust, fear…you get the point. Piper show us how the power of God’s superior promises in the gospel can emancipate our hearts from servitude to the shallow promises and fleeting pleasures of sin. Great book to read in a DNA group.

A Gospel Primer for Christians: Learning to See the Glories of God’s Love by Milton Vincent. Saturated with Scripture, you’ll be blown away by seeing the gospel really is THE point of the Bible and how it really is good news for us believing sinners. Great tool in learning how to rehearse the gospel every day in every day life.

Note to Self: The Discipline of Preaching to Yourself by Joe Thorn. Haven’t read this yet, but I can’t wait. Thorn writes 50 brief, devotional chapters that model what preaching the gospel to ourselves looks like and how to apply the gospel to every corner of our lives.
