Dragons and Monsters and The Gosnell Trial

Dragons and monsters are real.

That’s what I first thought when I read about the Gosnell Infanticide and Murder Trial yesterday. I wept, scared and enraged by such brutality and darkness and horror. How soon we in comfortable, plush America forget about the dragons and monsters that have been devouring God’s image bearers for decades and centuries and millenia!! We pretend they don’t exist, but deep down we know. And now, one more has been revealed. One day they will all be put under the feet of the Prince of Peace. But oh, may justice come even sooner and swiftly!

Please read these articles at the Gospel Coalition. And may we be the hands and feet and voice of Jesus to bring justice and an end to this slaughter now.

A Wicked Good Review of Everyday Church

Recently, Dwight Bernier wrote a six-part review of a wicked good book called Everyday Church: Gospel Communities on Mission. It’s a winsome, Christ-exalting, church-encouraging missional meditation on 1 Peter. It’s full of practical, biblical wisdom on how to live and love like Jesus in a world and culture that is increasingly intolerant of Jesus. Here’s a quick blurb from the book…

We live in an increasingly post-Christian culture. More and more we find ourselves on the margins as less and less people have any intention of ever attending church. What used to work doesn’t work anymore and we need to adapt.

Helping us to see the way forward, this book offers practical ideas and personal stories for engaging with Western society. Find out how to effectively reach people in the context of everyday life and take hold of the opportunity to develop missional communities focused on Jesus

And here are all six posts. I hope they whet your appetite to read the whole book later!

Part 2: Everyday Community

Part 3: Everyday Pastoral Care

Part 4: Everyday Mission

Part 5: Everyday Evangelism

Jude: How to Contend for the Faith

This Sunday we will wrap up our sermon series on Jude, “Contending for the Faith.”

In the closing words of his letter (1:17-25), Jude teaches us that contending for the faith is a whole church-project–every man and woman, boy and girl! Contending for the faith is the call of every one of Jesus’ disciples. It requires nothing less than an intentional life of faith, rooted and grounded in God’s promises. Here he gets practical and equips us for a life-time of contending. I encourage you to read Jude one more time before Sunday. And…

  • Let’s pray that we will grow in our knowledge and delight in THE Faith, the Gospel.
  • Let us pray that we will be alert to any and every perversion of the gospel of God’s forgiving and transforming Grace.
  • Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will convict of us of unbelief that is trying to sneak into our hearts and turn our hearts away from God’s promises.
  • Let us pray for Jesus-like compassion and mercy for each other as we encourage one another in the life of faith.
  • Let us pray that our confidence will flow from an ever-increasing awe of who God is and what he’s done, is doing and will do for us through Jesus Christ our Lord.

6 Ways To Reach God’s World

Here are 6 ways WBC can reach God’s world…and only 1 of them requires going! Each of these shows a strategic yet practical way all of us can be involved in God’s global mission. Take a look. Which one is God calling to you begin with?

From OMF’s “6 Ways to Reach God’s World.”

What is the 10/40 Window?

I hope that the “10/40 Window” becomes a well-known term and well-prayed place for in our WBC family.  Not just during our mission conference but from here on out, until the gospel is proclaimed to the ends of the earth! Here are a few basics to help.

What is the 10/40 Window?

“10/40 is missions shorthand for the most populous and least-reached region of the world. The 10/40 Window is 10° north latitude to 40° north latitude. It contains two-thirds of the world’s people along with the superlatives of despair — worst poverty, shortest lifespan, greatest persecution, least access to the Gospel.”–from Frontline Mission

How Many?!?!

“An estimated 2.79 billion individuals live in approximately 5,876 unreached people groups are in the 10/40 Window. The 10/40 Window also contains the largest unreached peoples over one million. In addition, the 10/40 Window contains the overwhelming majority of the world’s least evangelized megacities — that is those with a population of more than one million. The top 50 least evangelized megacities are all in the 10/40 Window! That fact alone underscores the need for prioritizing 10/40 Window Great Commission efforts.”–from The Joshua Project

What Can I Do?

For starters, you can come to the WBC Mission Conference May 5-6! We are going to learn more and pray more and plan more for how God will use us to reach the unreached together.

You can also take some time to explore these great resources…

Piper Sums Up Our Mission Conference

John Piper pretty much sums up the theme of our mission conference in about 3 minutes–if we are going to be about Jesus’ mission we have to reach BOTH our neighbors and the nations with the gospel! Take a listen.
